Awesome

I spent last night watching a baby being born.

I helped, I encouraged.

I held her hands and got her stuff.

I breathed with her. I shouted instructions. I did what the nurses let me do.

I wished I could do more. I wanted to share some of the work, the labour.

I held her legs and watch the baby crown.

I cried when the baby was born.

Everyone did. I wonder if everyone always cries?

It's the most amazing miracle ever. And yes, it happens every day, but it doesn't make it less amazing.

I think the world seems like a better place today.  I feel like I have my priorities straight.I feel very lucky.

Awesome indeed.

I have said to you before, it is a miracle every time a baby is born. We take it for granted but when you think about that fetus developing and being born, it truly is a miracle and as you said, it happens over and over everyday. I am glad your experience was so special for you and your niece.

For many years, while I lived in the wilds of Wyoming, I taught natural childbirth classes. Often I would get a call in the middle of the night when one of my couples would go into labor and need some support. I'd head off to the hospital and "coach" -- breathing and rubbing and encouraging and cheering the whole business. No matter how often I did that, I never lost the sense of wonder at the miracle -- or my deep awe at the sheer beauty of a woman giving birth.
How wonderful that you and your niece had this shared experience. Welcome to the world, little one!
