Winter Prayer

Seriously.

It's stupidly, horribly cold.

They said yesterday was -41 Celsius with the wind chill. Fahrenheit and Celsius meet at -40 btw, that's probably all you need to know.

And it's been insanely cold for most of a week that I had off. So cold that going out risks frostbite or hypothermia unless you are just rushing out to the car and even that's pretty miserable. We talk about which car we are going to take, heated seats or heated steering wheel. And which car heating system works the most efficiently.

No skiing, no skating, no winter fun. No walking or running outside.

Wear a hat, scarf, boots and WARM mittens. Wear a jacket with a hood, just in case. If your car does have problems be prepared to walk away.

The furnace in my house isn't keeping up. No it's not cold in my house, not really, but it's not warm either. The restaurant we went to last night was in an older building. It was cold there.

And for my asshole facebook friends who are in Florida or the Carribbean or Mexico and are whining about having to come back. We've heard your boasting for 2 weeks. We do not feel any sympathy for you having to return. In fact, we want to meet you at the airport and hose you down so you can catch up on the cold weather misery we have felt for a week.

Brrrr.

  1. Fuck, that is inhumanly cold. Seems like a reason to stay home and have more sex.

    1. It seemed inhumanly cold. And we had a houseful of people. Sex isn't impossible in a case like that but it is notable when it takes over everything else.

    1. Yep, I was totally angry sin.

I didn't actually meet them at the airport. But I was pretty descriptive of what I wanted here, wasn't I?

  4. I dread parking in the lot at work if I can't plug in... which means having to go start your car every hour or so just to make sure it will when you want to go home. I decided that I want to be one of those people who winter some place warm and write annoying updates on my facebook page about how hot it is.

    1. Me too! I want to go too!

And I'm lucky, I have a brand new battery in my car, so it starts.

  5. Guess I shouldn't comment about it going down to 45 degrees (about 7 C I think) last night in the Tampa Bay area. Our first 'real' taste of cold this winter. Nice thing about So Florida it usually warms back up the next day. No prolonged spells like you up North have. I don't know how y'all stand the cold. Keep warm.

    1. Thanks Joyce.

And no, 45F doesn't make me feel very sympathetic. Lucky you in So Florida!

  6. we're suffering at the other end of the scale...40+ degrees C and no rain for months...Temperature records are being broken all over the place. Anyone who doubts the existence of climate change (hello Australian government I'm talking to YOU) needs to step outside the airconditioned office...
    Stay safe Sin.

    1. Thanks for the sweaty hug. Pretty sure I wouldn't be very happy with 40+ C and no rain for months.

Climate change seems to be happening. More extreme weather in lots of cases. But ... I do note that they've stopped calling it global warming, as I think some people (Canadians?) didn't think that was a real problem.

  7. We left beautiful sunshine in the SW - 50 degrees - just off the ski slopes., to surf ahead of the bad weather on our drive home. It's supposed to snow and slide down to 10 below on our trip. How stupid are we?

    1. Mick, the thing is that we have to go to work so they'll pay us.

But I do agree that skiing and temperate sounds more attractive than working and nasty storm.
